Regional College Fair for Underrepresented Students @ Greater Norristown Police Athletic League

Thursday, February 23, 2012 6 PM – 7:30 PM

Representatives from more than 30 accredited colleges and universities will be on hand to speak with students and their parents about admissions criteria and procedures. High school students in grades 10, 11 and 12 are encouraged to attend along with their parents and friends. The fair will also be beneficial for transfer and adult students, as well as for college students seeking a place to take courses while home for the summer.

Financial Aid

A Financial aid officer will be prepared to answer questions regarding paying for college and information on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Interpreters

A Spanish Interpreter and a Chinese Interpreter will be prepared to help families as they meet with the college and financial aid representatives from 6:30 PM – 7 PM.

You will not need to bring your future kindergartner to the registration appointment. There will be a kindergarten Meet & Greet for parents on May 8, 2012 from 1:30-2:30pm. There will also be a kindergarten screening on August 1, 2012 from 9:00am-12:00pm. (*Specific screening times will be assigned)

JES is excited to welcome an exchange group from Manta, Ecuador. They will be visiting with us for three weeks. Eight of our fifth graders will be traveling to Ecuador in May accompanied by two chaperones. International School-to-School Experience, ISSE, provides a cultural exchange for all of us.

Dear Parents or Guardians

We feel it is important to make you aware that the School District of Jenkintown has been informed that a formal complaint has been made through the Pennsylvania ChildLine and Abuse Registry against Mr. Citron, the High School Athletic Director. The allegation concerns a former Jenkintown High School student.

It is important to note that the complaint has not been verified by the District or any other agency and that Mr. Citron has vigorously denied any allegations of wrongdoing whatsoever. The District decided to grant Mr. Citron a leave of absence pending investigation of the complaint, in an effort to be very cautious. The District’s action should not therefore be viewed as a finding of guilt on Mr. Citron's part.

When there is additional information of which you should be aware, the District will communicate that information in a timely manner.

Pasta for Pennies

The Elementary School is again participating in Pasta for Pennies. The program starts on 2/13/12 and runs until 2/24/2012. Each class brings in pennies (or other coins). The coins are tallied on a daily basis. The class with the most collected for the time period will have a pasta party from the Olive Garden. In addition, our school may be eligible for a gift card to Staples Office Supply Store.

All proceeds go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The money raised supports research for treatment of blood related cancers such as leukemia, Hodgkin’s disease and lymphoma. If you have any questions please contact the nurse’s office.

*Checks may be payable to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Special circumstances covered by one or more Act 1 exceptions require a tax rate percentage increase above the Index in order to balance the School District budget for the 2012-2013 fiscal year.
