CISV stands for Children's International Summer Village. Founded in 1951, CISV is a group of global volunteers who provide opportunities for young people to get together, learn about each others cultures, solve problems, build leadership skills and promote a peaceful world, one child at a time.
The flagship program of CISV, and the most competitive, is called Village; others include Summer Camp, Seminar Camp, Interchange and International People's Project. Locally, CISV participants are involved in Service Projects, one of which is called Mosaic. Everyone who gets involved is transformed in many ways. There are 24 chapters in the USA and numerous chapters in 60 countries all over the world. Though our chapter is called Philadelphia, most of our membership is in Montgomery and Bucks Counties. Since our programs are run by volunteers, they are also more affordable than the usual camp and travel experiences.
The CISV program has been supported by Home & School for a number of years with many children participating in the programs. It is our aim to have students, teachers and parents review the programs CISV has to offer and encourage students to apply for these opportunities to spread the word of CISV and, hopefully, further diversity education in our district.
