A Message from the Nurse's Office
This information will serve to help you understand the health services provided for the pupils in the School District of Jenkintown.
In order for the Health Staff to carry out all the programs effectively, they must depend on your cooperation, particularly in the following areas:
1. Emergency data forms should be filled out completely and returned to school immediately.
2. Any health questionnaires brought home by your child should be completed and returned to school immediately.
3. If your child receives any immunization, has surgery, or is treated for an accident or illness outside of school, please notify the school nurse.
4. Inform the school office of any change in address, telephone number, or emergency contacts.
The health staff is available at all times to answer any questions you may have about your child’s health.

SCREENINGS
Hearing
The school nurse will perform a hearing test on all students in grades K - 8, and 11th annually. Students with a history of auditory problems will be screened K - 12 annually.
Vision
The school nurse will do vision screening on all students in grades K-12 annually.
Heights & Weights
The school nurse will weigh and measure all students K - 12 annually.
Hair & Scalp Examination
When indicated.
Scoliosis
The school nurse will screen all students in grades 6 and 7.
PHYSICAL/DENTAL EXAMINATION
The Pennsylvania state law requires that students have a physical exam upon entry into school, grades 6 and 11, either by a private health care provider or the school doctor. Pupils entering The School District of Jenkintown for the first time without record of a recent physical or dental examination in their previous school will be required to have a physical/dental exam. Dental exams are required on entry into school, grades 3 and 7, by a private health care provider or the school dentist.
EMERGENCY CARE
Emergency care will be offered to students caused by accident or illness occurring during school hours. The school nurse implements standing orders written by the school physician for emergency treatment.
In case of emergency and the need of medical care, the school will call parents/guardians via the phone numbers provided to the school. If there is no answer the school will call the other phone numbers listed for emergencies and the physician. If none of the emergency contacts are available an ambulance will be called to transport the child to a local medical facility. The school will continue to call the parents until one is reached.
